Jay Sean … Spoils It

It’s rare, if not impossible to find any articles critising multiplatinum British Asian artist Jay Sean. So i welcome you to your first one. If you can’t take this i suggest you close your browser NOW!
The latest news is that he has done a Hindi remix of his heavy heavy hit, Ride It. Desihits also announced that he has been played more frequently than Kanye West in Japan! Now, that’s something to be proud off! But is the Hindi version of Ride It something to be proud off?
Brand Jay Sean, which has been multiplying over last 5 years simply goes down the drain with this version of Ride It. What happened to ‘I’m doing what i love, Rn’B and soul’ and then going on to say that just because he is Indian doesn’t mean he has to add Asian beats !!??
Clearly this is a stunt to get into the Indian market. Jay Gatby of Desihits.com says, “Very smart move for Jay Sean; the record is melodically a hit anyway you slice it; the Hindi lyrics will win him BIG points in India.”
From an artist’s point of view this maybe the way to break into the Indian market once again, but from a die hard fan’s point of view, i don’t think this piece of work will have any positive results (and no points in India). We all tend to assume that in India they only listen to Bollywood music. Didn’t anyone realise the chaos when Akon was in Mumbai or when Megadeath brought down the house! Adding few Hindi lyrics won’t do magic. I completely disagree with Jay G when he says “…record is melodically a hit anyway you slice it.” Jay shouldn’t be singing in Hindi. Juggy D used to fill that place…and the lyrics definitely don’t substitute for the original, which was also in line with the choreography. It has lost all its seductiveness.
Overall, a bad move and he has managed to taint his hit single Ride It.
